14 Ogos - LGM Hasilkan Klon Getah 1Malaysia

 
LEMBAGA Getah Malaysia (LGM) memperkenalkan klon benih getah baru berpotensi untuk penanaman secara komersial serta menghasilkan pokok getah yang bukan saja menghasilkan susu getah yang tinggi, tetapi juga bermutu untuk industri perabot.

Ketua Pengarah LGM, Datuk Dr Kamarul Baharain Basir, berkata klon siri RRIM30001 yang juga dikenali sebagai ‘Klon 1Malaysia’ itu dihasilkan menerusi pembakaan getah menggunakan kacukan antara benih Brazil dan tempatan.

Pokok getah yang ditanam menggunakan klon RRIM30001 boleh ditoreh dalam empat tahun selepas ditanam dan menghasilkan purata susu getah melebihi 3,000 kilogram sehektar setahun.

Benih baru itu juga mampu menghasilkan batang pokok yang lebih besar dan lurus dengan isi padu kayu melebihi dua meter padu sepokok selepas 15 tahun ditanam, berbanding 1.4 hingga 1.6 meter padu ketika ini.

Katanya, baka baru itu melalui tempoh penyelidikan dan tanaman percubaan 25 tahun membabitkan keluasan ladang 100 hektar di beberapa lokasi di seluruh negara.

“Kami yakin klon getah ini mampu menarik pekebun kecil menceburi industri tanaman getah, sekali gus meningkatkan bilangan ladang getah daripada 1.247 juta hektar yang ada ketika ini,” katanya ketika ditemui selepas pelancaran klon baru itu oleh Timbalan Perdana Menteri, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, di Serdang, Selangor, semalam.

Pelancaran diadakan sempena perasmian Pameran dan Persidangan Komoditi Antarabangsa Malaysia (Miccos) anjuran Kementerian Perusahaan Perladangan dan Komoditi di Taman Ekspo Pertanian Malaysia, Serdang.

Hadir sama, Menteri Perusahaan Perladangan dan Komoditi, Datuk Bernard Dompok.

Kamarul Baharain berkata, LGM mampu menghasilkan sehingga sejuta benih getah atau ranting mata tunas setahun bagi membolehkan ia ditanam secara meluas di negara ini.

Pengedaran benih getah baru itu, katanya, akan dilakukan menerusi lebih 100 syarikat yang diberi lesen oleh LGM.

Sementara itu, Dompok berkata kementeriannya memberi tumpuan untuk memperkukuhkan daya saing sektor perladangan dan komoditi, khususnya sawit, getah, kayu kayan, koko, tembakau dan lada.

Mengenai Miccos 2009 yang bertemakan ‘Komoditi Adalah Satu Industri’, beliau menjangkakan pameran yang disertai 227 agensi, syarikat swasta dan industri itu mampu menarik 50,000 pengunjung sepanjang penganjuran empat hari sehingga Ahad.

Natural rubber, also called India Rubber or caoutchouc, is an elastomer (an elastic hydrocarbon polymer) that was originally derived from latex, a milky colloid produced by some plants. The plants would be ‘tapped’, that is, an incision made into the bark of the tree and the sticky, milk colored latex sap collected and refined into a usable rubber. The purified form of natural rubber is the chemical polyisoprene, which can also be produced synthetically. Natural rubber is used extensively in many applications and products, as is synthetic rubber. It is normally very stretchy and flexible and extremely waterproof.

Pond Design and Construction o Soils should be tested to determine if they are capable of holding water. Soils with clay, clay and loam, or sandy loam are best. Soils with limestone, shale or sand and gravel should be avoided because they will allow seepage. o The dam should be constructed with a well-built spillway to allow control of flood waters. It is desirable to install an overflow structure with a bottom drain in the pond. The ability to drain a pond provides options sometimes necessary to properly manage water and fish in a small pond. o As a general rule, the deeper the better. The pond should be no less than one acre with at least 24% of the surface area being more than 15 feet deep. This will help keep water levels stable and minimize winter-kill and evaporation during the summer. Ponds with a constant flow-through generally provide better conditions for fish survival. o There should be grassy or wooded barrier strips between the pond and cultivated areas to reduce pond siltation and possible pollution from runoff. Steeper slopes demand greater buffer strips. o Water quality is important to fish production and survival and includes many factors. Consider having your water tested to make sure it is compatible with your goals and objectives. Some factors to consider include: pH level, alkalinity, amount of dissolved gases such as oxygen, heavy metal concentration, acidity, total dissolved solids, nutrient levels and turbidity. o If the primary source of water is from a well, water should be aerated to assure adequate dissolved oxygen content and dispersal of other gases. This can be accomplished by discharging the water over a short run of rocky substrate that creates turbulence before entering the pond. However be mindful of potential soil erosion in the area from the well to the pond. o Fences should be erected to exclude livestock. Livestock tend to congregate around ponds, trampling the edges, causing the banks to erode and muddy the water, degrading water quality and limiting the diversity and health of vegetation around the impoundment. o New water impoundments should not be stocked with fish immediately after filling. It is best to wait a few months to a year before stocking to allow the water to clear, aquatic
